I'd like to create an ephemeral DigitalOcean VM for testing out automation, Ansible code and various other things, and have it survive for exactly X number of hours, after which it is forcibly terminated without warning.
Why would I want something like that? Simple - a truly ephemeral machine, which I know is going away today, is very useful - I won't store anything I really need on it, and if I forget to turn it off, I won't be billed for it... for a year... at around $12 USD/month (plus 20% if I helpfully enabled backups). Not that that has ever happened to me. Ahem.
I'm confident I can make something like this using Ansible, one of my favourite tools for automation and orchestration. Terraform could achieve similar results, and I'll likely explore that at some other point, but for now I'll be sticking with Ansible.
